Why Do Greyhounds Get the Zoomies?

If you live with a greyhound, you know how fast things can change.

One minute they’re stretched out on the couch, completely still. The next, they’re flying through the house or yard like someone flipped a switch.

Those sudden bursts of energy are commonly called zoomies.

They can happen after a walk, during play, when a greyhound gets excited, or sometimes for no obvious reason at all. For most dogs, it’s simply a short release of energy.

With greyhounds, it tends to be a little more dramatic.

A dog built to run can turn a few laps around the yard into a full event. The main thing to watch is the environment. Slick floors, tight corners, and furniture can become obstacles pretty quickly once they get moving.

It’s one of those behaviors greyhound owners recognize immediately — especially because of the contrast. These dogs can spend hours sleeping, then suddenly decide it’s time to sprint.

That familiar moment is what inspired our Zoomies Initiated design.

Like a lot of Greyforge ideas, it started with something we saw in our dogs and thought:

Every greyhound owner knows exactly what this is.
